Belmont Middle School and High School
Belmont Middle and High School underwent a $295 million phased and occupied renovation encompassing 445,100 SF, with an addition to include added facilities and space for grades seven and eight. The project was designed and constructed net-zero ready and to U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Ratings System LEED v4 BD+C: Schools certification specifications. The design boasts a comprehensive strategy around integrating 283 geothermal wells and installing 75,000 photovoltaic panels on the rooftop.
The new school features improved ADA accessibility, improved health and safety standards, video production space, makers spaces for robotics and engineering, and science labs. In addition, the project included the construction of a black box theater and the renovation of the existing fieldhouse, significantly enhancing the school's performance and athletic spaces. CHA worked tirelessly coordinating the project team, culminating in the successful completion of the new school wing allowing the high school to welcome back students in time for the 2023-2024 academic year. The final section for the Middle School opened for the first day of school in September 2023.

Tom brings over three decades of experience as an engineer, building commissioner, and project manager. He was the Commissioner of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 2004 to 2015, overseeing updates to three state building code editions. Tom also spent 11 years as the Town Engineer and Building Commissioner for the Town of Belmont. His expertise spans public projects of all building types across the Commonwealth.
